The 178 Steps Lesson of Buying and Selling Real Estate

sugarloaf mountain steps

Sugarloaf Mountain MD

Post inspired by Roy Kelley's post on Sugarloaf Mountain Wine Tasting

We've hiked several several trails on Sugarlaof Mountain, ( http://www.sugarloafmd.com/ ) and taken many photographs along the way. I knew someday I would use some of the photos in blog posts. We've gone up and down these steps more than once. They start about halfway up the mountain, but it's possible to drive to the bottom of the steps if you don't want to hike the entire way. I think I counted 178 steps last winter when we hiked up. There are many views no matter which way you go. There is also a stone Civil War fort nearby.

Sugarloaf is only about a 30 minute drive from Lovettsville. We get on route 28 at Points of Rocks and we're halfway there. We always turn left and find a parking spot when we arrive. There are more parking areas and picnic tables farther up the mountain, with views of surrounding valleys and landscapes. One of things I learned from Roy's post is, there is always something more just around the next curve. Seems like I tell buyers that I'm working with that a lot when we go see a home that they either don't really like, or just received multiple offers on. It can be frustrating, but we might find something else we didn't know was there just around the next curve. Buying a home is a process, and sometimes you just have to pace yourself, and be patient.

This photo of the stone stairway also reminds me of working with buyers and sellers. Sometimes there is 178 steps involved in buying or selling. Sometimes you find what you're looking for at step 5, or step 75, etc. Sometimes you don't, and sometimes you have to stop and take a break on some of the steps. If you don't find it by step 178, that doesn't mean you won't find it. You can't see what else there is to choose from until you get to step 178. Then you can see that you have choices of more trails to follow. One or more of those trails could lead to the property you've been looking for.

Whether you're buying or selling, we'll create a plan from the start. Sometimes we'll have to adjust that plan, other times we might have to extend that plan. And many times out plan will work out as we hoped.

I think this is an excellent anology (and a terrific photo to illustrate it) about the home buying and selling process. In some case there might be even more steps than expected (sorta like turning that corner and seeing another flight!!!
